CHEAP HAND HELD DIGITAL TV METERS

Lately, we have noticed that the majority of new TV antenna installers and electricians are using cheap handheld TV signal meters. Some of these meters can be up to 20 times cheaper than professional TV analyzers. Due to their lack of experience and their unawareness of the downsides of these meters, this can lead to unnecessary callbacks.

The first and most important function used when analyzing the digital TV signal is the spectrum analyzer. Because of the slow sweep speeds, low resolution, and limited frequency range of cheap handheld analysers, it is impossible to detect potential problems that may develop over time.

The limited frequency range of up to 860 MHz means we are unable to measure mobile phone frequencies above 870 MHz or other potential issues at higher frequencies. Installing without checking these higher frequencies would be a guess, potentially leading to future problems.

If an installer shows up at your door with one of these instruments, it is highly likely they are not professional TV antenna installers but probably an apprentice, electrician, or IT technician. If they proceed with the job, you should request a guarantee in writing that, if the same problem reoccurs within 3 to 6 weeks, they will return and fix it at no charge.
